Looking to become a Business Controller? The Controlling Academy ensures that you will acquire the right knowledge and skills
19 November 2024The world of finance and controlling has evolved tremendously over the last 15 years. Technological evolutions also demand new skills from a controller. That is why at TriFinance we invest heavily in Learning & Development for consultants who want to evolve towards controlling. A perfect example of this is the Controlling Academy.
- Tailored to young professionals: The Controlling Academy is an L&D program for young finance professionals who have the ambition to evolve towards controlling.
- Theoretical knowledge combined with practical applications: The synergy between conceptual knowledge and best practice training allows consultants to build the core foundations to become a strong controller.
- The importance of soft skills: Communication skills and storytelling are an essential part of the skillset of a strong controller. This too is part of the Controlling Academy.
At TriFinance, each consultant can map out a personal growth path. We support our consultants to actually realize these ambitions through development talks, training, mentoring, coaching and challenging projects. For starting professionals, all options are still open. A privileged position which at the same time requires appropriate guidance.
Adapted to the training needs of consultants in controlling
The idea of the Academies arose precisely from this need: they offer young finance professionals with about two years of experience a structured growth path towards the next step in their career. There is the F&A Academy for consultants who want to evolve towards a role in Financial Management, and the Controlling Academy for consultants who want to evolve towards a role as Business Controller.
The Academies provide a structured growth path toward roles that young finance professionals with about two years of experience typically aspire to: Business Controlling and Finance Management.
Thus, the Academies are a follow-up to the Young Hub Program, which guides newly graduated consultants on their first projects. Yet the Academies are just as interesting for finance professionals who have gained initial experience in a permanent role and are then making the transition to finance consultancy. Thanks to the Academies, we guide and accelerate their careers towards roles as business partners.
The Controlling Academy program
During this comprehensive two-year program, participants are offered an extensive and practically oriented training program that immerses them in the core areas of controlling. Topics such as cost accounting, budgeting & forecasting, management reporting and dimensional modeling are covered, as are tools like Power BI and the various ERP systems.
All controlling training courses were developed by TriFinance experts from Management Information and Systems (MI&S), under the coordination of an experienced program content lead. In addition, all training courses are run by senior consultants with many years of experience in controlling.
In this two-year program, participants delve into all core areas of controlling, from cost accounting and budgeting & forecasting to management reporting, Power BI and ERP systems.
Pragmatic and unique
Thanks to their experience, trainers can reference real-life examples: what are best practices and what lessons can be learned from less ideal situations? This is how the Controlling Academy creates a powerful synergy between theoretical concepts and practical applications. Over the two years of the program, the profession of controller is built up step by step. Upon completion of the course, participants receive a certificate.
Thanks to this approach, the Controlling Academy fills a gap in the Belgian training landscape in finance. In higher education, in fact, there is no specific training for controlling. And because it is not a protected profession with compulsory annual refresher courses, there is no integrated controller training either. Academic institutions and training institutes offer only a few standalone training courses that fit the profession. The Controlling Academy offers a solution by bringing together conceptual knowledge, practical experience and the translation to financial systems in one program.
With its own Controlling Academy, TriFinance aims to provide a solution to the lack of integrated controller training programs in the Belgian finance training landscape.
1+1 = 3
The training courses of the Controlling Academy are only one aspect of the participants’ growth trajectory towards controlling. The careful selection of the projects to which the consultants are deployed plays an equally important role in the Academy approach. Throughout the two-year program, participants are gradually assigned to projects that require more controlling expertise. In doing so, the consultants can always rely on mentoring by one of the Controlling Academy trainers. This helps them to immediately apply the theory into practice.
This mix of training, practical experience and mentoring allows our consultants with ambition to develop their career in controlling to quickly add value for clients during their growth journey. With the support of experienced mentors, they can optimize business processes and tackle complex controlling issues effectively.
