Kristien Schreurs: Building a high-performing sustainability team

11 April 2025

Kristien Schreurs joined TriFinance in 2016, bringing substantial experience from her previous role as a commercial advisor at BNP Paribas Fortis.

Today, she is an experienced project manager and mentor at CFO Services, specializing in ESG reporting. Kristien helps clients navigate the complexities of CSRD, EU Taxonomy and VSME. Her story is one of seizing opportunities, determination, and growth.

A defining moment

In 2022, Kristien made a decision that shaped the next phase of her career. She transitioned from T&S Antwerp,T&S Antwerp— where she worked in bookkeeping, treasury, and SAP S/4HANA implementations — to CFO Services, taking on a dual focus: sustainability reporting and project/change management.

"These two naturally go hand in hand," she explains. Sustainability is an important topic today—and its importance continues to grow every day. Kristien is fascinated by seeing how companies turn their sustainability ambitions into concrete strategies. Her role isn’t to tell clients how to be sustainable, but to support them in telling their own story—helping them integrate sustainability into their business strategy and report on it in a meaningful and transparent way.

This move was more than just a career shift—it was an opportunity to build something new. "At CFO Services, I was given a lot of trust and freedom. That really allowed us to build a strong sustainability reporting team. Stepping out of my comfort zone time and again over the past few years has taught me a tremendous amount."

Building a high-performing sustainability team

Of all her achievements at TriFinance, Kristien is most proud of the growth and autonomy of her team. "We started as just two people a few years ago, and today, we have grown into a team of more than ten experts," she shares. "Seeing my colleagues achieve great results for our clients independently is so rewarding."

This success is rooted in a shared philosophy: growth is a collective effort. Kristien believes strongly in the power of collaboration."You never complete a project alone. What genuinely drives success is collaboration, both among internal colleagues and with clients. Together, we achieve much more and learn from each other.

Advisory at its Core

For Kristien, advisory work is about more than providing expertise—it’s about driving transformation. Sustainability reporting, in particular, is a process that demands awareness-building and alignment within organizations. "We don’t just offer solutions; we support our clients in embedding sustainability reporting into their business strategy. This requires strong teamwork, continuous learning, and staying ahead of regulatory developments."

Kristien thrives during moments of structured collaboration, especially in steering committee and update meetings. "These meetings always come with a healthy dose of stress," she admits, "but by the end, I feel highly satisfied. Everyone is aligned, the next steps are clear, and the team is re-energized to move forward."

Growth through mentorship and reflection

Kristien's professional journey has been shaped by key moments of growth, often catalyzed by mentoring and self-reflection. "There were times when I felt stuck, unable to see the bigger picture," she recalls. "Mentoring sessions have been incredibly valuable in helping me prioritize and determine my next steps."

At TriFinance, growth is not just about individual progress—it’s about building a base where knowledge is shared, and opportunities are created. "I have been fortunate to be part of an environment that encourages continuous learning. The combination of trust, autonomy, and collaboration has been very important in my journey."

Looking ahead

As the field of sustainability reporting continues to evolve, Kristien remains committed to leading her team and clients through this transformation. "It’s an exciting time to be in this space. The challenges are significant, but so are the opportunities. By working together, staying informed, and continuously learning, we can create meaningful change."

Her story reflects the TriFinance philosophy: growth starts with the right mindset, and success comes from working toward a shared ambition. With her experience, leadership, and focus on development, Kristien Schreurs shows what it means to grow within TriFinance—and to support others on their journey too.
