The challenge

H.Essers has grown rapidly in the past 10 years. This does not only affect the legal structure, but also the financial organisation of the group. The bookkeeping of Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark is managed from the Belgian HQ by a finance team of 35 people. The bookkeeping of the other countries is organised locally, but the consolidation is centralised in Belgium as H.Essers reports under the Belgian accounting legislation.

“In addition to the daily follow-up of our financial activities, we are constantly looking for opportunities to optimise and standardise our processes in order to work similarly across the different countries,” explains Jordy Vos, Head of Accounting at H.Essers. Given the long-term focus on expansion, the need for standardisation of processes is increasing.

“After the retirement of a colleague in our GL team, I started looking for a complementary profile to look into potential optimisations, while our GL bookkeepers could continue focusing on their daily activities. The result

Maxim Jackmaert, Project Consultant at Blue Chip Boutique Transition & Support (T&S) Antwerp, started at H.Essers as GL bookkeeper. “This project appealed to me, because of the wide variety of tasks and the opportunity to gain experience in a complex and fascinating industry. Moreover, I live within the region, which ensures a pleasant work-life balance.”

In this role, Maxim supports the team, a.o. in the preparation of the financial statements and the obligation with regards to corporation tax. Next to this, he was given the opportunity to participate in due diligence projects related to acquisitions and mergers, and he started to formalise transfer pricing in contracts.

Sanne Grondelaers, Project Consultant at Blue Chip Boutique CFO Services, started at Credit Controlling. She provides first-line support for customers and looks at optimisation of the collection procedure based on the creditworthiness of customers. Güdrun Verhelst started as Consolidation Manager ad interim, and is responsible for the documentation and optimisation of a new consolidation tool.
