"Consultancy wasn't the first thing on my mind"
"Consultants, they're those diehards in three-piece suits, right? Not my cup of tea. But on the advice of an acquaintance, I came to TriFinance to have a look. It turned out I was wrong and I've been working here for more than 5 years now."
Carlos Lombide (33) started his career as a bookkeeper at a finance department. When he was ready to take the next step, consultancy wasn't the first thing on his mind. A friend of his recommended TriFinance, and now he is glad he made that choice.

From bookkeeping to controlling
"I joined TriFinance with the purpose of moving from bookkeeping to controlling.” As he previously worked in a smaller environment with a main focus on bookkeeping, he needed to go through a ‘transition phase’ - as he calls it - to gear up for the transformation of bookkeeper to controller. “TriFinance helped me to gain the necessary experience before eventually making the big change.”
“In my first project, I could mainly deal with topics I was familiar with, such as VAT and Intrastat, while getting used to consulting. I was fortunate to have a senior colleague from TriFinance working at the customer who was my mentor and helped me to get accustomed.” He also worked on two GL bookkeeping projects and implemented a bookkeeping program to automate the reporting and controlling flows at a rapidly-growing start-up.
“All of these projects were invaluable building blocks that enabled me to get my first full-blown controlling mission.” Since mid 2017, he has been working primarily as a Business Controller.
The three pillars of Carlos
How exactly he wants to evolve professionally is not yet entirely clear to him. He talked to his career coach about it, and during the most recent conversation with his managers, he expressed his desire to continue improving as a Controller in the short term. "As a Controller, you get to deal with everything that goes on in a company. You get to be analytical and interact with a lot of people. I like having that."

Carlos is interested in socially relevant projects that have an economic aspect and include entrepreneurship and pioneering. He believes in new technology as a solution for global warming and is involved in the promotion of renewable energy. "Those are the three Carlos pillars," he punctuates with a laugh.
